Occult Research
Occult research begins by learning information (even mundane facts) and applying this knowledge to more areas. The researcher, armed with fact that a rod is 16.5 feet, can learn why acres are 43,560 square feet. (The perimeter of a specific rectangle containing an acre has an even number of rods). Continuing his research, the occultist may come to the conclusion that all English measurements are based on a rod and not based on the foot, as most people believe. Most occult discoveries are mundane as this example. However, there are revelations that inspire the intrepid investigator to continue. As the Master says, knock and the door will be opened.
Occultism Defined
The word "Occult" means "hidden" and exists in two types. The first type is personal. For example, if one does not know the number of feet in a rod, then this is information is hidden from the individual. A more accurate and less intriguing adjective would be "ignorant". This deficit can be corrected by learning that a rod is 16.5 feet. The second form that the occult takes is general occultism where the vast majority, or all people, are ignorant of certain facts or insights. As the Master says, nothing that is hidden that will not be known.
Good and Bad Occultists
Generally, historically speaking, occultists have not always been truthful or forthcoming with certain information. They are notorious for not giving all the facts or information that is necessary to come to the proper conclusion. I do not fault them for this behavior. The masses do not need every occult idea or principle. However, as clearly stated in the "Occultist Hand Book', occultists can not lie. (Philosophers have a similar rule). Armed with this fact, occult commentators will fall into one of two categories. Either they are writing to continue the cover up of certain information or they are wholly deceived and honestly believe what they are writing. Unfortunately for the student, knowing which type of writing is all but impossible to know. My only advice in this area is to have a critical, reasoning mind and valid principles. As the Master says, the Truth shall set you free.
