What is “gay pride”? It is commonly understood as pride in being a homosexual. Since the contributors of this website believe that words have meanings, we will explore “gay pride”.
“Gay” is a well known vernacular word for homosexual and will not be discussed here. According to Webster's Third International Dictionary, pride is
1. “a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements”
2. “achievement of qualities that are widely admired.”

2. “achievement of qualities that are widely admired.”
By the first definition, we suppose that any achievement can be associated with pride. The second definition is less subjective with the qualifying words “widely admired”. This place pride in the context of conventional values and morality. The vague meaning of “widely admired” can be seen from two perspectives. “Widely admired” can refer to a national or local perspective. Pride in being a homosexual is not admired nationally, but it can be admired locally, i.e. San Francisco. We now know the definition of pride and we will explore exactly what “gay pride” is or is not. Clearly, the “feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction” in the achievement of homosexual intercourse sounds strange.
For gay pride to exist, one must have “a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements”. The only accomplishment that an individual homosexual has that is distinguishes him from the general population is the achievement of homosexual intercourse. Unfortunately, homosexual intercourse is not “widely admired”. Therefore, we are left with an awkward and seeming bizarre meaning for “gay pride”.
Homosexuals possess “a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived” from their own achievements and the only achievement is homosexual intercourse. Any other accomplishments (career, education) have nothing to do with being a homosexual and is explained by other aspects of the individual (hard working, intelligent). Those individuals who possess gay pride are openly stating that they have intercourse. Logically, a chaste homosexual can not have “gay pride”. If one were chaste, nothing is being accomplished (sexual relations) and they could not have pride for who they are (whether by nature or nurture). If homosexuality is inborn, then there can not be pride associated with it. No one has pride in eating, drinking and sleeping. If homosexuality is not inborn, then once again the only achievement is homosexual intercourse.

Since the action or quality of homosexuality is not “widely admired”, we must come to the conclusion that “Gay Pride” does not exist in the current day and homosexuality will never be “widely admired” by the overwhelming majority of people.
